This June, KeelWorks turns 18! Can you believe it? Eighteen years of plugging along on a wing and a prayer. Thousands have come through our doors. So many stories of success. The mere fact that this organization has persisted this long without money or assets is nothing short of amazing. The future looks bright and with KeelMaster now live in Kenya, the next 18 years are already underway.
What began as one person's belief that opportunity shouldn't depend on luck has quietly grown into something remarkable. Through recessions and recoveries, across time zones and language barriers, KeelWorks has been a constant — a place where people who just needed a chance found one. No budget and no flashy office. Just teams of people showing up, learning, growing, and moving on to build careers and lives. 18 years of that, over and over again, is how a foundation gets built.
Behind every milestone is the force that drives our work forward—our people, our partnerships, our purpose, and our vision for the future.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to expanding our impact and creating more opportunities for those we serve. Together, we can continue building a stronger future for our community.
Our two Kenya teams, Ubuntu and Ashé, are pushing forward despite delays getting computers. They're meeting weekly, walking through content, and most importantly, collaborating. That's a holy grail at KeelWorks. Our instructional design teams are also making excellent progress developing subsequent courses as the pipeline is moving.
The bigger picture is staggering: over 400,000 refugees in one camp. A population of unmet need and untapped human potential. Our ambition is to get people to work by building internet cafés, stimulating small businesses, and creating wealth from the ground up. Every salary generated multiplies 4 times over in the local economy.
If there is a cloud on the horizon, it is my advancing age. This year I will reach my 75th year. I am quite healthy, but none of us live forever. I have been with KeelWorks for all 18 years — and for most of them, I have been the only constant. With a handful of exceptions, others spend a short time here and move on to great things. Somehow, we must find a way to fund permanent positions. That is an essential requirement for KeelWorks' future.
Your support makes a difference. The work we do wouldn't be possible without you. Every dollar helps us get people to work: laptops for Kenya, internet for refugees, opportunity for thousands.
