The KeelMaster program launched nearly a month ago in the Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya, marking an important step toward creating opportunities for young adults seeking to rebuild their futures.
However, the early weeks have highlighted a critical challenge. The two teams of ten participants currently share just two computers. Because the program depends heavily on teamwork and virtual collaboration, this limitation has made participation difficult.
We initially believed participants could rely on phones or shared family devices. In reality, high data costs and limited access to reliable devices have made this approach unsustainable. Despite these barriers, group sessions have been energetic, engaging, and full of potential.
To address this, we are sending $1,400 to VDPA, our refugee-led partner organization in Kenya, to purchase four used computers. At the same time, our ongoing fundraiser aims to secure additional resources so every participant has a fair chance to learn and contribute.
This is a crucial moment. With the right tools, these teams can fully unlock their potential.
The typical KeelMaster participant is someone at a turning point.
Many have been out of work for long periods. Some are educated but struggle to find opportunities aligned with their skills. Others have seen their professions disrupted by changing markets or advancing technology. For refugees, the challenge is even greater. Hard-earned qualifications often go unrecognized in new countries.
What they all share is the need to reinvent themselves.
KeelMaster is designed for exactly this purpose. Through structured needs assessment, team-based learning, and strong peer support, participants gain not just technical skills but also the confidence and direction needed to build new careers.
We're excited to share that the KeelMaster Annual Report 2025–2026 is now available on LinkedIn.
This report captures the progress we've made over the past year — from developing our seven core competencies to advancing KeelLearn and our learning management system. It also highlights the growth of our mentorship-driven model and the steps leading to our first pilot program in Kenya.
Most importantly, it offers a clear view of the impact we are working toward in 2026 and beyond.
"I admired the emphasis on innovation and the close-knit, collaborative culture. Over time, I've come to see not just the passion but also the practical, data-driven strategies behind the work. It reinforced my belief that KeelWorks is a place where I could grow and contribute meaningfully."

I am deeply grateful for our 200+ dedicated team members at KeelWorks. While we are in a stronger financial position than before, much of our funding is being directed toward KeelMaster computers and essential software.
At the same time, our success in helping associates secure jobs has created leadership gaps in key areas like data analysis, marketing, and product management. This puts pressure on our operations.
Progress on KeelMaster remains encouraging, especially in course development and deployment. However, we still need funding for computers, infrastructure, and increasing cloud costs.
One key lesson stands out: it takes funding to secure funding.
